Enigmathico is a European educational project that reimagines how mathematics is taught to children aged 8 to 12. By blending interactive storytelling, hands-on games, and interdisciplinary pedagogy, the project makes learning math more inclusive, engaging, and meaningful, especially for pupils who face barriers such as reading difficulties, learning disorders, or math anxiety.

Enigmathico is driven by a mission to strengthen basic skills, reduce educational inequalities, and prepare students to navigate today’s complex societal and environmental challenges.

Enigmathico stands out by merging two traditionally separate domains: mathematics and literacy.

Through Enigma Interactive Novels, pupils are transformed into story-driven detectives who must use logic, reasoning, and comprehension to solve mathematical puzzles embedded in rich narratives. This method supports both cognitive and emotional engagement, helping to reduce math anxiety and foster a deeper understanding of core concepts.

The project also adopts a cross-sectoral, collaborative approach: teachers, publishers, game designers, and pedagogical experts co-create each educational resource. This ensures that materials are academically sound, relevant, and practical.

Additionally, Enigmathico embraces a transmedia strategy, combining books, physical games, and digital tools to encourage manipulation, experimentation, collaboration, and digital literacy. By linking math learning to real-world themes (like climate change, social justice, and public health) the project helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Enigmathico focuses on three main priorities :

  • First, it aims to spark interest in STEM by transforming math lessons into engaging experiences through storytelling, digital tools, and gamification. Teachers are supported with training and resources to confidently apply these innovative methods in their classrooms.
  • Second, the project promotes inclusion and diversity by developing multilingual, accessible, and adaptable learning materials. These resources reflect Europe’s rich cultural and linguistic landscape, ensuring all learners can fully participate.
  • Finally, Enigmathico is committed to reducing educational inequalities. By combining literacy and numeracy into a learner-friendly approach, the project strengthens foundational skills and helps prevent school disengagement, particularly among students facing learning difficulties.

Enigmathico seeks to make math fun, collaborative, and meaningful. With a strong emphasis on motivation and creativity, the project transforms mathematics into an engaging journey supported by dedicated tools and teacher training.

Partners

By bringing together partners from across Europe: France, Belgium, Greece, Poland, Romania, and beyond, Enigmathico creates synergies between diverse educational systems, cultural contexts, and pedagogical practices. This project’s collaboration fosters innovation and ensures the materials are adaptable, inclusive, and scalable.

Szkoła Podstawowa z Oddziałami Dwujęzycznymi nr 20 im. Jana Gutenberga Fundacji Szkolnej w Warszawie

Poland

Situated in the capital of Poland, Warsaw, our school has been a private, non-profit primary educational institution for three decades. Pioneering in Poland, we established one of the first bilingual programs 20 years ago, focusing on teaching geography and biology in English. This bilingual teaching system, integrated into our curriculum, significantly contributes to language acquisition among our students.
Our educational approach places a strong emphasis on foreign languages and Information-Communication Technology, with a particular focus on developing critical thinking skills. In extracurricular classes such as robotics, maths, and IT designed for primary school learners, students have the opportunity to apply their mathematical skills. Over the years, our students have excelled in various math competitions, including Olimpus, Galileo, and Maths Kangaroo.
Dedicated to fostering STEM competencies, we actively engage students in mini-projects related to computer studies. In 2020, we organized an event where our students, alongside peers from different regions in Poland, participated in setting a world record for simultaneous coding—a record that we proudly surpassed.
Beyond the cognitive dimension of teaching, we recognize the importance of the social dimension of education. We are committed to adapting to the heterogeneity of our students to ensure that everyone has access to educational success. This inclusive approach aims to combat school dropout and failure. Through our comprehensive educational initiatives, we strive to not only develop language proficiency and STEM competencies but also foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
