Math&Move
The Erasmus+ project Math&Move uses an innovative educational approach that integrates movement and storytelling into mathematics instruction to enhance engagement, comprehension, and inclusion. Designed for children aged 6 to 9, the project aims to reduce math-related anxiety and underachievement by utilising kinesthetic learning and narrative-based teaching strategies.
For example, pupils learn to act out the movement of clock hands to understand time or use their bodies to form geometric shapes. Tactile materials, such as string or sticks, are also provided to create geometric lines, as well as tangible objects to illustrate sides, edges, and units of measurement.
Furthermore, mathematical concepts are introduced through engaging e-books that contain clickable elements and music. This allows pupils to participate in problem-solving adventures that require mathematical thinking.
By linking mathematical concepts to physical activities and storytelling, the project provides a multi-sensory experience that makes learning accessible and enjoyable for all pupils, including those with specific learning disorders or from disadvantaged backgrounds.
